God's measure of success

Updated: Sep 6

James 4:10

Success is something we all desire to have in life...even when doing the work of God, however how He measures success is contrary to how the world measures success. Disappointment and striving often creeps in even when we are doing good when we bring our ideas of what success looks like in the secular and apply that in Kingdom work leading to misrepresentations of God and what pleases Him and also striving.

In the secular, success is driven by performance, numbers and what man can see but what we know from scripture is that success indicators in the Kingdom of God is the polar opposite.

Success is having a servants heart for serving others serves Christ for we are told that to be great we must learn to be a servant Mathew 20:26..

Success is doing the will of God, Jesus said “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven Matthew 7:21.

Success is doing the little faithfully for He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much Luke 16:10.

Success is knowing I don't have to increase for God to increase....increased popularity, audience, influence, platform does not mean God's increase...in truth we must decrease and He increase John 3:30.

Success looks like fearing the Lord, trusting in Him, humility, faithfulness, obedience and holiness.

So stop measuring the success of your growth in the Lord and service of Him from human standards instead from what the word says success looks like....what is your heart inclined to? what are your tendencies and preferences? does it gratify the flesh or the Spirit? does it honour the word or the world? does it glorify God or you?
