Not legalism but Christ

Colossians 2:11-23

Legalism is something that we as Bible believing, Jesus loving Christians must guard against. Legalism is the strict, literal, or excessive conformity to the law or to a religious or moral code....Legalism is produced when Obedience is stressed apart from faith...adherence to moral law over personal faith. Legalism is an example of zeal without knowledge as referred to by Paul in Romans 10:2. Legalism can often be the result of an ignorance of God's righteousness instead seeking ones own righteousness proving a lack of submission to the righteousness of God.

Behind legalism is pride and a need to be recognised and acknowledged.

This is something that saw Jesus often rebuking the religious leaders during His time for as their legalism neglected weightier matters which is why Jesus in His rebuke said “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence Matthew 23:25. This beloved is effectively what legalism is...extortion and self indulgence.

In it's simplest form Legalism kills faith... Legalism suffocates and stifles ones growth in Christ because it becomes not about Him anymore but you.

Remember beloved It is not about how pious it looks or how religious it seems but more on is God pleased and Is Christ glorified? if the answer to either of those questions a no then we could be dealing with a legalistic matter instead of a God honouring one.
