Spiritual Searchlight

Lamentation 3:40

Twenty first century Christians.This is who we are and we are so good in pointing out flaws and weaknesses on others but our very own. Today’s scripture encourages us to search our own ways.. “Let us search out and examine our ways, And turn back to the LORD.

Humility will be the gate in which we can enter into this self evaluation boundary in order to conduct a thorough search within us. Pride however is the lock that shuts us in away from our breakthrough if we refuse to align ourselves to the convictions of the Holy Spirit’s leading in our lives.

Sooner or later we will encounter the consequences of our disobedience when we disregard the convictions of the Holy Spirit. Haggai the prophet reminded us by saying this in Haggai 1:5-7

(5)Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways! (6)“You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm;

And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” (7) Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways!

Our Spiritual search-light which is the Holy Spirit will search us out and expose us when we are willing to be searched by  Him. If we are not willing to be obedient to the prompt or the conviction of the Holy Spirit, our sin will eventually catch up on us.. Moses reminded the Israelite in Numbers 32:23

But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out.

David had a first hand experience on this type of ignorance when he sinned against the Lord and commit adultery with Uriah’s wife. Then the  Spiritual searchlight exposed him through the prophet’s mouth in 2 Samuel 12:12 Nathan the prophet rebuked king David by saying “For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel….”

The king was humbled and his humility moved him to ask God for forgivenss (Psalms 51) and allow Him to conduct an internal spiritual search on his life. Pride no longer governs his life for he has learnt his lesson the hard way. He said in Psalms 139:23

Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; Psalms 139:24

And see if there is any wicked way in me,

And lead me in the way everlasting.

Beloved if you allow the Holy Spirit to do a thorough search internally, not only he will expose your weakness and wickedness, but he will lead you in the way everlasting…
