Who does your life profit?

Mark 8:36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Mark 8:36 is a well known scripture that is very often quoted but the essence of which is amiss from many a Christian. What does your life profit beloved? or put another way who does your life profit? the answer to that question reveals who/what you are investing in. Worldly thinking encourages us to think in an insular manner i.e. self first, those closest to us second and then outwards...but the word of God exhorts us to put God first, others second and us last....so our lives are to profit God first, others second and us last. This does not come naturally, it is something we have to continuously renew our minds with the word of God to so that it becomes our second nature. To follow Jesus we must set aside selfish interests, expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come believing and conforming to the example of Jesus. This is how we effectively witness of Jesus to the world for our greatest witness is not in what we say but how we live. Dissuasion for the hope we profess happens when our minds have not been renewed and hearts transformed to putting ourselves last and we try to preach at others....this hypocrisy is the biggest hindrance in ours as well as others walk with God. This is why we see Jesus rebuking the pharisees and seducces so many times in scripture because as teachers of the law they ought to have known better yet they lived opposite to the spirit and nature of the God they professed to serve. We are a royal priesthood in this day and age beloved...so we need to live like it. Preach to ourselves first and the word will quicken in our hearts and cause us to be profitable to God and his kingdom.
